The Review

The cover, intrigued me. I’ve never been a fan of the stereotypical naked man on the the cover, yet this cover held allure involving appeal to more than just one type of audience.

I didn’t read the first book of the Cursed by Blood Saga, so I was unfamiliar with the characters when I delved into this read. Kudos to the author, I wasn’t lost. She did an excellent job with character building. You could tell the difference between the Weres, Vampires, and Humans. As I reader, I was immersed in the world the author created. I loved the detail of the crime scenes, morgues, and the emotional responses to all.

The story started a little slow and at times felt disjointed, but as the story progressed I could feel the rhythm and the pieces began to fall into place as the author secured the threads of her well woven plot. Sometimes the back story gets a little heavy as the pace of the read varies, but I’m sure other readers appreciate the breather from the fast pace. One other gripe is that the first sex scene in the book was a little rough (descriptors), but the subsequent ones worked well. The story opens with the Detective, Ryan Martinez and leaves you wondering about who is really is until the last moment – I thought he was going to be a loose end. The main protagonist is a sexy, stubborn female by the name of Lily Saburi. Who doesn’t love a bitchy, yet fun and fearless heroine? The antagonist is not so obvious. As the story progresses, you are left to wonder who the real enemy is. I’m not a big fan of playing out the plot in the review, but do recommend you read the book for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.

This was a cover to cover uninterrupted read for me. I give the book 4″ of fang.

I received this ebook to review as part of the Bewitching Book Tour.

3″ of fang is an interesting book
3.5″ of fang is a good book
4″ of fang is a good book that gives me something to think about
4.5″ of fang is a great book that evokes both emotional response and leaves me thinking
5″ of fang is an awesome book that I’m still talking about two days after I’m done reading it.

About the Author

Marianne Morea is a New Yorker, born and bred, and for the most part her stories and characters embody the grit and complexity of the city. An avid traveler, she uses her experiences from around the world in all her books. There isn’t a place her characters live or travel that she haven’t been herself, and through her words, tries to transport my readers. Like most authors, her love affair with the written word started as a child with the books she read. Even today, she loves to read almost as much as she loves to write. Marianne’s favorite stories are the ones that transport her, that bring her to places and introduces her to characters that leave readers breathless…the ones that spark the fire of her imagination, allowing her to dream in the world of ‘what if?’ She’s always been a scribbler, and from the time she could write her name, Marianne has been making up stories. So it was no surprise to family and friends when she earned degrees in both Journalism and Fine Art, but after working in the trenches of Madison Avenue as a Graphic Artist, she decided to do what she loves most full-time. Write.

Her dark paranormal romance, Blood Legacy, is the first book in her Legacy Series, and takes you from New York City to the Costa del la Luz in Spain, to foggy London and the romance of Rome. The story also takes you back in time 300 years to a place rife with conflict and brutality, bringing an historical edge to my vampires, their lives, a love that spanned the centuries and the search for absolution and redemption that carries death in its wake. Hunter’s Blood and Twice Cursed are books one and two in Marianne Morea’s contemporary shifter series, Cursed by Blood. The story is set on the east coast of the U.S., taking you from the rocky coast of Maine to the heart of New York City, the NYPD and the vampire underground. Revenge and the struggle for power all play a part in this urban fantasy suspense, where Weres and Vampires are forced to work together to solve the mystery of what’s tearing their veiled world apart from the inside out.

In the meantime Marianne is also a founding member as well as a former President of The Paranormal Romance Guild, a not-for-profit organization for readers and authors of the genre. She’s now a PRG Board Member and Co-Chair of the PRG Event/Marketing Team. She is still writing, and when not sitting ‘bichok’ (but in a chair hands on keyboard), she’s spending time with her husband and three kids, traveling to exciting, romantic places …for inspiration, of course! Who says dreams can’t come true?

  1. Thank you so much for your wonderful review! I’m thrilled you liked the book, and am gratified beyond belief that the detail I put into describing people and places was worth all my time and effort. I spent many hours interviewing NYC Homicide Detectives, and researching their protocols and ‘cop speak’. I even visited the morgue, if you can believe that! My aim was for my readers to feel like they were ‘in’ the story, not just reading about it. I can finally let go of the breath I’ve been holding, because your review let’s me know, mission accomplished!

Cheers, and a Belated Happy New Year…

Your research was well worth it. I remember when I did the same for my book For Blood Money… I can’t believe you visited the morgue. That must have been a real/surreal experience.

Thank you for the opportunity and for stopping by.
